The west fleet is better resourced than it has been for a while now that further short HSTs (255 sliding door / 257 slam door) are now in traffic. Quite a number more vehicles available than there were diagrams this morning - including 150s....

Either way, it’ll mean that the already tight west fleet will have to sweat it out further for a while. It’s just as well there’s a number of available HSTs that can be shortened to cover the mainline duties then!

Has the sprinter involved in the Penryn derailment returned to service yet?

150234. Yes - operating into Wales today. Not sure when it returned to traffic.

Been back in traffic ages. Possibly after only a few days. Nobody seems interested in asking but 150221 is on Laira Depot. Some posters seem to think that units are going to be out of service for months after an incident other than as the result of a collision

Presumably a safety check, and good to go. Hasn’t collided with anything so I’d guess minor damage at most?

Wheelsets get a thorough check; and if necessary set gets booked in for tyre turning; but otherwise it’s predominantly a quick check over to ensure everything is still in working order and back into traffic.

If the wheelset damage isn’t significant (and it usually isn’t, steel wheels normally win against ballast/sleepers) it can even re-enter traffic before tyre turning, and just be attended to when next convenient.
