Does anyone know how this unit was eventually moved and where it was actually moved to, obviously its gone back to Neville Hill but I suppose it could have gone to Newton Heath

Also are News Reports right in saying that it took about 3 hours to get under control

Pacers give you cancer.

Given how long they've been in service, I am sure there will be some stats to show that a lot of people who have used Pacers in their life have gone on to get cancer.

So, yes, Pacers give you cancer! :D

This is surely the fault of the privatised rail system. Where is good old Bob?

Well, they were built pre-privatisation so I guess Bob's only take on it could be the 'obvious' poor maintenance since.

I use Electrostars and don't have cancer.
Thus Electrostars cure cancer.
Therefore electrify the North and South West and replace Pacers with Electrostars.

Think of the children!

My commute home which is usually a lovely 3 carriage 144 has just been replaced by a scanky heap of a142 two days in a row. I wonder if this has anything to do with the fire.

Please in the name of all that is good, not to mention my sanity, Get well soon 144023 !!!!

Some of the 142 fleet have quite a rasp to them... Tends to be the 'Heaton' regulars.

Others ensure the cleanliness of their passengers by having random streams of water come down from the ceiling. Usually just after you've got the newspaper out, which a) ruins the Su-Doku you've just started and b) funnels the stream of water onto your trousers. This is also a useful way of finding out if you've forgotten to do up your Fly.

Still if travelling on the Aire Valley (which I know this wasn't), it could be a 333 instead, so I shouldn't moan....

If what I have heard is true (usually a reliable source) the fire brigade did more damage than the fire!

Early indications are that the coach isnt too badly damaged and is quite easy to repair subjuect to a full chassis inspection.

Had a look at it before when I passed on my way to Rochdale.
It's definitely a bit toasted! Damage doesn't look too bad though. They've removed some of the seats inside (I would assume to have a look at the floor.)

It was a 3-car - 144023 I believe.

Last ever Pacer built too.

Still, its better than nothing. Class 142 units are like courtesy cars, there as a back up instead of a journey being cancelled.

I've travelled on a 142 from Blackpool to Halifax once and it was going to York, what does Northern do they blend both the East Lancashire Line stopper with the York express ended up 30 down at Halifax but at least I managed to get back to Halifax whether it was a 158 or a 142.

Any news on when this is likely to be fixed ?

Still a lot of 142‘s turning up where there ought to be a 144 at the moment.

I guess this is a mark of how stretched Northern really are and how much each and every set means to them. Still, good on them for continuing to do there best and not simply bustituting the diagram or another one

Anyone know which unit was involved? Can't tell from the image whether it's a 2-car or 3-car unit. Looks like a 2, but can't tell if there's another car obscured by all that smoke!

3 Car. Go to the MEN article and look at the close up of the smoke carefully.

Do any of our Northern contingent have an update on the progress of the centre carriage ? This is the third short formed pacer in a row for me and the extra carriage would have been handy.

I hope Northern aren‘t dilly-dallying on the repairs !

Presumably the same rush as 150135 which has been OOS for over a year due to the state they ran it into. Can't even claim its serving a use as Christmas tree as its in Kilmarnock...
