Class 142 to Buxton?

Well if it's to to with gradients they have no problem going over Miles Platting, and as for body width it doesn't seem to stop them navigating the tight platforms and curves into somewhere like Carnforth on the odd Leeds diagram, unless the issue is with a tunnel or a station with restricted clearances?

It's probably not an issue with curves, as the shorter body of the 142 means it overhangs the track less than other units. Hence my guess above that the problem is likely to be some part of the cross-section that goes outside that of other units, and clashes with a structure on a piece of track that is straight or nearly so.
