Class 142 Nodding Donkey

I had the misfortune of having to travel from Dore station to Man Picc on the Hope Valley Line, 1hr 15mins on a nodding donkey

Going to the toliet is an art in itself on these units

My question is how long do passengers mainly in the north have to put with this awful class of train

I did Sheffield-Lincoln...before then I didn't mind those trains but since that hellish experience I HATE THEM! It was worse on the way back as I had eaten too many sweets which made me feel sick with all the bumping and banging that these trains do! It would have been so much better even on a lil old 156!

Had a 142 from Nunthorpe - Carlisle the other day. OH THE JOY!
Going round Hartlepool Corner was terrible.

Heaton diagrams to blackpool? First thing ive heard of that one....
Cumbrian coast yes I know about but not blackpool.....

HT671 comes off Blackpool North LMD around 04:00 tied to the 04:57 Blackpool North-Colne its split off at Preston and becomes the 05:22 Preston-Carlisle via the coast.

Im sure there is a second HT diagram on the books too but cant think what it is off the top of my head.

however sometimes Northern Rail give passengers and extra challenge by putting a 1 car 153 on a peak time service :roll:

Don't suppose anyone's ever done Southport-Manchester on a 142?

They bounce so much that at peak times, people standing near where the two carriages join are physically thrown around the train

I was in Southport yesterday during the afternoon rush hour and was sitting on my Merseyrail train waiting for it to depart towards Liverpool. In the opposite platform in the non-electrified half of the station was a Class 142 + Class 150 consist awaiting departure for Manchester Airport. I was very surprised at how many people had opted to sit in the 142 half of the train - all of the seats looked taken, even 15 minutes before the departure time! I can't imagine what it was like when the train was due to leave and definitely would not like to have been on that service all the way to Manchester!!

I was in Southport yesterday during the afternoon rush hour and was sitting on my Merseyrail train waiting for it to depart towards Liverpool. In the opposite platform in the non-electrified half of the station was a Class 142 + Class 150 consist awaiting departure for Manchester Airport. I was very surprised at how many people had opted to sit in the 142 half of the train - all of the seats looked taken, even 15 minutes before the departure time! I can't imagine what it was like when the train was due to leave and definitely would not like to have been on that service all the way to Manchester!!

I guess the 142 was closer...and in general people don't seem to be able to tell the difference...my friend said to me once..."Hey Alex our train is here"...and I said "No its not only the class 323s run to Prestbury" and he was like "huh?"

The 142 was actually further away lol with the 150 at the buffers by the station entrance. I agree that people can't tell the difference between trains whatsoever apart from their different colours and the same thing goes with cars to an extent with some people.

i have spent 2hrs 45 mins on a pacer before (hartlepool - carlisle) not the best of journeys but pacers arnt as bad as people make out.

...I think I used it for aaround 2 hours, lancaster - leeds (but might have been something else), on my way from edinburgh (took the west coast route as it was cheaper, and at £7.25 I couldn't refuse ), but god it was awful. sooo noisy, I closed the window and it seemed to make it worse, and soooo bumpy.

tbf credit to northern it was generally clean and what not, but theres no point window dressing these dinosaurs by giving them apaint jobs and re-upholstering seats, especially on these long routes. Its same with the desiro 185 on tpe, they should be on the routes the pacers are on, they'd be ok on these routes but not on the back achingly uncomfortable manchester/liverpool to newcastle routes or worse still manchester to edinburgh...hock:

edit: actually might've been class 150 or something, still horrid...

Would the ride on the 150 suffer from being attached to the 142?
