It's a steel plate carrier, TOPS code SPA. They were built in 1977 and were also used to carry steel coil. In the 1980s a lot entered engineers use, and were recoded as ZAA and named "Pike" in the sea creature based code used for engineers wagons. This one is one of the wagons in engineers service and is hence a ZAA, as you can just make out the remnants of Civil Engineers yellow and grey livery. I got this information from here: http://www.ltsv.com/w_profile_031.php Lots more info about this type of wagon on there if you are interested.I've been down in South Wales for the past week and saw this as we passed Swansea yard. I took a photo of it out of a FGW MK3 door window. Does anyone know what it is?
