The loco in action today. Seems a bit weird having a virtually silent loco!
Indeed, I thought that a nice touch too.Great that it still has a whistle!
It’s 1.5 times as powerful as an 08. Endurance is the greater concern. Also 15mph max still.is the 08-E designed as a straight swap for a 08 or does the battery pack allow more power so could be used in place of some mainline engines for switching?
Has someone gone on Temu, Alibarba or ebay and bought a fake Clayton Class 18?

15mph, max speed in yards and sidings is 5mph anyhow so max speed is not an issue. It’s 1.5 times as powerful as an 08. Endurance is the greater concern. Also 15mph max still.
I read that they have kept as much of the original cab fittings and controls as possible, to aid staff familiarity. (And possibly to preserve grandfather rights?)Great that it still has a whistle!
That's the simplest possible explanation.I read that they have kept as much of the original cab fittings and controls as possible, to aid staff familiarity. (And possibly to preserve grandfather rights?)
Arrived last Wednesday for a week long trial, so it's now left.Thank you.
It appears that this locomotive has been travelling around the country. It spent a fortnight at Whatley Quarry, Somerset running alongside existing shunters and in the past week or so it has turned up at Neville Hill railway depot, West Yorkshire. I don’t know if the shunter is still there.
I assume the work will be done in Chesterfield?08296 is to be converted by Positive Traction into an 08e for Heidelberg Materials UK (formerly Hanson UK).
Presume Whatley Quarry.I assume the work will be done in Chesterfield?
Where will it be based once completed?
Yes a rail related event on.Parked up outside Derby Arena on a low loader today
It’s going to LNWR at Crewe isn’t it?
Remarkably long-lasting locomotives, indeed. Is the inbuilt bodyframing strength the reason for such a long life.08887 built in 1962 in br blue livery is there & 09007 built 1959 in br green.
I would say it is the "steam era" design. steam loco style mainframes with big cast axleboxes and conventional springing and side rods, Chuck in two tried and tested indestructable traction motors and that is the underpinnings sorted. Bolt on an EE RKT engine and more indestructable gennys and you have a robust shunting device - devoid of electronics.Remarkably long-lasting locomotives, indeed.
