Does anyone know whether red con rods survived when 08s/09s were repainted from green into blue? I've found some images of 08/09 shunters with red con rods, but they are all from contemporary heritage restorations. I'm asking because I swap a chassis between a green and blue body depending on which era I'm modelling. Given that the model is an old Lima one, it might have been best to leave them in the factory finish of silver and heavily weather them for this dual era purpose (which I may do).
Thanks
Matt

I'm going to say some Longsight based 08s certainly had red rods. Pictures on eBay of 08721 and 08790 with red rods/beams.

Although it doesn't answer your question, I believe the standard colour for con rods on BR blue shunters was yellow, so I'm not sure why your Lima model has them in silver.

Certainly 08 675 had red con rods when seen at Manchester Victoria in August 1982.

As did 08956 at Ipswich in August 1988.

I also have poorer pictures of 08 718 (HA) at Edinburgh Waverley in 1989 and 08 755 (HA) at Millerhill also in 1989 and both have red con rods. I also have another photo of 08675 at Ayr in the late 80's but by then it had got yellow con rods.

This I photographed on ED depot, probably one of many visits in early 80's, and although it rods are black with oil/muck, yellow can be made out in small places. I understand the OP's thinking in that they want to be accurate with such detail - as I often am the same on the model front - but in reality I suspect the rods of many 350's, be they red or yellow, will have found themselves on different locos from time to time, if swapped on depot as a result of being bent or such.

Lima never painted the con rods, they are just self coloured metl, they were massively overscale as well
