Oh yes they did !!! In the 1970s we had a regular working from Bournemouth Goods yard to Hamworthy Goods , main line Bmth - Ham Jct

How many miles did they travel?, Is this and the Weymouth Quay run (which I knew about, and is hardly main line) isolated cases? or did they work any goods runs ?

IIRC they also used to work the boat train down to Weymouth Quay.

Who owns the Weymouth Quay branch ? Is it main line, is it a branch line ? or is it just a port siding ? Am I right in thinking that the reason 03's worked the Weymouth Quay branch is because of their small wheelbase around the track curvature ?

Does anyone actually know for sure what's wrong with 03179? There appears to be conflicting reports about what actually failed and to what extent.

ISTR that about once a month the Weymouth 03s were changed over, presumably for servicing. This meant a night trip to Eastleigh, always with a brake van in tow, as the 03 on its own couldn't be relied on to operate the track circuits. Apparently there were some ingenious methods used to keep the deadmans in during what would be a trip in excess of five hours !!!
