Clarification of rules on Split Advance tickets

I think I know the rules should I be delayed on a journey with spilt advance tickets but could one of the experts please confirm

I have a journey bought from this site with 3 advance tickets for:
Chesterfield to Manchester “EMR Only”
Manchester to Preston “Northern Only”
Preston to Glasgow “Avanti West Coast”

Similar tickets for the return journey the next day

If a train is delayed so I miss a connection I believe I am automatically allowed to travel on the next train for the company in question, and if that delay is greater than an hour I am allowed to travel on a train from any company

Simple question – is my understanding correct?

Your understanding is mostly correct. I would just caveat your statement with the fact that you're entitled to require the operator that caused your missed connection to re-route you on whatever the fastest journey opportunity to your destination is.

Unfortunately, an entitlement to be re-routed is not the same as a right to board/travel - and in the (reasonably likely) event that you are refused re-routing to which you're entitled, you may have to buy a new ticket (as necessary to use the fastest journey opportunity) and then claim back the cost of this from the refusing operator afterwards.

Obviously, even if you're refused re-routing by the customer services/social media of the relevant operator, you could always ask the guard of the train you intend to catch - they may well exercise discretion or goodwill. Crucially, however, this must be done before boarding; you should be able to see the guard on the platform. You might well decide that if they refuse, you'll simply wait for the next train of the "correct" operator and claim extra Delay Repay!

Presume minimum connection times are being met, for the planned change of trains at Manchester Piccadilly (=10 minutes) and then at Preston (Lancs) (=8 minutes)?

15min at ManPicc (and I’m pretty sure it'll be the same platform) and 9min at Preston so OK on that score. Anyway tickets bought through this site so bound to be OK :)
