Sorry Dennis, I should have explained more positively. I meant the cab desk lights, to make them a little brighter and making the ambiance of the cab a little darker. That's if BVE allows. I know getting these night scenes has been very difficult and appreciate if these can't be changed. Just wondered if it was possible.

I take it, seeing that you can't show headlight spread, you won't be able to show any signal light spread either. That's answered that, thanks.

Your Devises line will be interesting. I just remember the track and junctions being in at the Woodburgh and Holt Jct ends when we used to work to Westbury via Reading and also from Swindon and the Melksham lines in the 60's.

Bill EWS.

Lightspread from illuminated objects is quite easy to do as this just requires modification of static objects. There are two ways of doing this, either adding some diffuse lighting effects to the textures or by creating a semi-transparent sphere or cone of light emanating from the objects, as per many of the night routes currently around. As the Clarendon night run is set on a perfectly clear, moonlit night the latter option would not really be appropriate.

Not adding more lighting effects to the objects was a conscious decision for reasons already explained. Now I am happy about fiddling with signal bitmaps, I might modify these in the forthcoming extension to give the heads a night look.

re the Devizes line, this is being modelled as if it had remained open (having been closed by Dr Beeching nut briefly reopened as a diversionary route) - at the moment, modelling is nearly complete from Westbury up to Caen Hill bank (although a few local landmarks are still conspicuous by their absence). However, my coding skills have improved a fair bit since any work was last done on the line so some serious remodelling is required at a couple of locations, most notably the trackwork at Westbury.

Not quite sure where I am going to terminate yet - originally some trains terminated at Patney & Chirton (Woodborough) which is where I had planned to stop but recreating some of the mainline onwards is quite tempting.

Not completely obvious from the website but the objects should be in the directory...

c:\program files\bve\railway\object\night Clarendon for BVE 4\

and the route file in...

c:\program files\bve\railway\route\night Clarendon for BVE 4_route\

Apologies for any confusion.

Thanks Dennis. Aside from the initial differences in sub folders (I have program files\mackoy\bve4 not program files\bve (to distinguish from BVE v2)) there does not seem to be any other differences in the rest of the directory structure. Hence, I cannot see where the problem lies unless those first few sub folders make all the difference, but then the program files themselves would be in the wrong place. Or am I talking a complete load of do-das? Thanks.

Just stuck a semi-fast run in the rain and fog (for the original day version) on the website http://www.freewebs.com/dennislance/.

Only a route file and timetable BMP are in the zip, no new objects or other significant revisions made to the route.

Class 156 is the required traction - don't expect to actually see any passengers, this is a typical regional service carrying fresh air.

Sorted: nothing wrong with the directory structure at all: it can only have been a corrupt download as I helped myself to the zip file again, reinstalled & now all is working tickety-boo! :angel4:

An excellent route, I have to say - well done Dennis!

Hi Dennis,
Just given your 37 and 156 night routes a run and they are really very good. Well, done. Nice touch including the 'surprise' (won't say unless some haven't tried it yet!). The signalling on your night routes are a big improvements but I still feel that that first 25 mph check comes up too fast and could do with a warning board. Also the 25 mph before the main line, then jumping onto a 75 mph, seems a waste of time too. It's very brief. However, other than that the overall night driving effect is very good.

Going onto the single line to Berkley with the 37 I got a speed warning on the 60 mph maximum until I reduced to 20 mph. I'm wondering if there are still some object files missing and I am not getting any restrictions used for the weedkilling run! Weedkilling speeds can be up to 60 mph if you have the latest track cleaning vehicles on the train. An operator travels with the driver and operates the track spraying by a handheld remote controller. If you are using 'Sandite' then the driver operates this himself while running at 15 mph opver the section(s) for cleaning.

I too had trouble with the downloading and some files went elsewhere and I had to hunt them down and cut & paste them into the respective folders. I don't like using Winzip for BVE downloading, something usually goes astray! What's the possibilty of everyone using the 'Install' system that many others use? They go directly into place first time. every time!

I did a little checking of the signalling in your 'original' daytime coal train route and think I have sorted out the signalling over the first section. If you are interested let me know and I shall send you my comments. I tried emailing but you don't accept this from the Forum pages.

Thanks again for the time and effort you have put into these routes.

Bill EWS - comments are being taken on board; warning for the first 25 limit has been moved back about 150m for the next extension. The PSR itself is there due to the embankment being unstable (well that was my thinking - you might see the problem in the future!)

On the weedkilling run, this was really just an excuse to run the 37; the linespeed on the branch has been set to 25 as this is what I thought some spray trains might operate at (only ever seen a couple operating and this was about the speed they were doing) - I'll stand corrected on this. There will be no lineside indication of this speed restriction as it is obviously related to the train.

As a point of interest, one of the spray trains I have seen was T&T 37's with a couple of what looked like TTAs and a van or two of some description. I was standing on the platform at Bath Spa and it came through quite slowly, still spraying. I was surprised to find some spattered over the passengers (including myself) - not much but enough to make the 'suits' stood near me complain!

Regarding downloading / installing files, one day I'll learn how to set up a self extracting archive.....

During construction of the latest extension, I have noticed quite a lot of errors / omissions in the signalling on the main line section; the ones I am aware of are being corrected - feel free to point out any you feel are a particular problem (PM or Hotmail me).

Great work there - Also nice to see another route for my 156!

What would be nice is a run for the 47 and 20 (20 being also good for spraying) that is coming very soon - lot soon than you all think I might add.

Once again excellent job and look forward to future releases...

Kind Regards,
