All being well I will be travelling on a steam railtour this coming Saturday to Faversham and Sheerness on Sea. The train has a pick up/drop off at Clapham High Street, which must be a very rare event in itself, I should not think many steam trains have called there for passengers for very many years.

Anyway in the evening, the train is due back at Clapham High St at 2135 and my next train home from Clapham Junction is at 2150, does anyone have any idea how long it will take to walk between these stations, I would go along Clapham High Street itself, then along Northside of Clapham Common, then down one of the roads to Lavender Hill and to Clapham Jct.

Tks.

I've tried to walk it once but ended up taking the wrong turning and ended up at Balham! :/

Its a bit of a distance, you probably won't be able to do it in 20 mins, you could get the 345 bus between the 2 stations.

Nice to see that the naming decision of the LB&SCR and WLER still continues to confuse customers almost 150 years after the station opened

I'm sorry to report that Clapham Junction station isn't in Clapham; it's in Battersea. The station was reportedly so named by the railway companies because at the time Battersea was a bit of a dive, but neighbouring Clapham was what estate agents today would probably call "highly desirable."

The walk from Clapham High Street to Clapham Junction station is just shy of two miles; so would probably take at least 30 Min to walk. As ert47 suggests, you could try getting a bus, number 35 or 345, or alternatively travel via the Northern line. Where are you trying to get to?

As the other 2 guys have said, it is a fair walk, Google has it at 1.9 miles.
Google also has the bus journey as 22 mins so you may face a wait as there is little chance of you making a connection like that.

No way would you do it in 15 mins (unless you're a top-ranked sprinter or have a pre-booked taxi to pick you up). I'd allow 25-30 mins walking at least.

Thank you all for your input, I will go for the following train from Clapham Junction at 2220 and invest £ 2.30 for the 35 or 345 bus.

I'd go for a taxi. It costs a lot but might be the only way to make the crossing in time. With a sprint at CLJ.

On a side note, have a great time at the Hop Festival! The steam railtour is always brilliant to Faversham and Sheerness.

I'll be on the Hop Picker Portion of this Tour

It's also NOT going to be steam hauled :(
It's got 37516 and 47500 on it :(

I was on the main train from London to Faversham & the local one to Gillingham (Kent) and Sheerness on Sea. It was very disapointing that the steam loco failed (Oliver Cromwell) the night before and there was not time to arrange an alternative at such short notice. They did give free tea and coffee and also a voucher for 1 beer on the way back. Plus a bottle of Spitfire which they normally do anyway. They are supposed to be writing to us in the next few days.

I am due to go with Tornado on 29 Sep and the Kentish Belle Steam train on 11 Nov, so hopefully those locos will be OK and the industrial problems that EWS/DBS are having now will be sorted out by then.

If there was no steam loco available, but there was a train back, what did haul it?

If it was 37516 then quite a few people would be wishing they were on it!

Clapham High St is adjacent to Clapham North station. A direct service is proposed between Clapham High St and Clapham Jn, which most people support but there's one or two who don't (this is discussed in Should the Inner South London line been saved? which is a misleading title anyway as nothing is happening to the line, instead there will be a more useful service) so in future you can take a train direct!

37516 made a SUPERB sound,
I was in Coach J right behind her
She clagged loads coming out of Gillingham - she probably made more smoke than Oliver Cromwell could have!

and 37516 and 47500 were both free at Southall so they just had to find a driver at short notice which they did,

It was disappointing at having no Steam but the 37 did it's best to make up for it!

I Had a letter of apology regarding the failed steam trip to Faversham yesterday.

I saw the railtour come through Sittingbourne when I was waiting for a train to the Paralympics last Saturday. :)
