Aldi, Lidl and Iceland all stock them according to their respective websites. I can't vouch for the quality of them though...

Heaving us back on-topic, I suppose it's too much to hope that the subway will be widened by removing the retail units altogether?

Nope, because it isn’t all retail, and the narrowest points are still the constraints.
