Claiming for delay repay and declassification

The very delayed GWR 1150 today from Paddington to Hereford is also short formed and declassified.

The TM has made separate announcements about claiming delay repay, and that holders of 1st Class tickets can claim the difference in price from Standard Class.

How does one do this?

How does one do this?

Delay Repay claims are most easily submitted through the Delay Repay portal on the GWR site. At the moment the train is "only" delayed by about 53 minutes, so if that's the delay with which you reach your destination, this would entitle you to compensation of 50% of the relevant portion of your ticket.

However, there isn't an automatic form for declassification claims. You need to get in touch with GWR customer services to make your claim for this.

Of course, if the delay gets beyond 1 hour (and you are using a single ticket, not a return) it becomes irrelevant because the compensation would hit 100% anyway. So pray for a few minutes more to be lost!

Thanks both. Currently the difference in price between our first class Advance tickets and the equivalent Standard is greater than 50% of the ticket price*, although we’ve just been told we’re being held at Evesham waiting for the single line to clear so who knows?

(*Taking a future Thursday for comparison).

Presumably there’s no way you’d ever get compo of more than what you paid If the two were added together?

No, as the money you get for declassification is a partial refund (in other words, reducing the price you paid for your ticket). Delay Repay is then calculated based on the price of your ticket. In theory it's possible that if you submitted both claims at the same, they wouldn't 'clock' this and you would end up getting more than you're entitled to. Obviously you certainly wouldn't want to deliberately do this!

If you arrive with a delay of an hour or more, it's easiest just to submit a Delay Repay claim.

True, I agree it would be wrong to try to get more than we paid, although adding the delay to the fact that there’s been not even a cup of tea does rather rub salt in the wound!
