Clacton - Colchester Town services?

Just looking at RTT for Clacton On Sea, I've noticed a few extra services to Colchester Town, does anyone know anything about these? I don't recall hearing anything about any new services.

I guess due to an accident on the level crossing on East Street, they are down to single line working between Colchester & Colchester Town, with services from Clacton running into Colchester Town

Customer advice:

A road traffic accident at a level crossing between Colchester and Hythe / Colchester Town has caused extensive damage to railway infrastructure. Emergency services and Network Rail response teams are on site, but major repairs are required to the overhead electric wires.

- Liverpool Street to Colchester
- Colchester to Colchester Town (reduced)
- Colchester Town to Clacton

Train services face disruption 'until the end of the day' after crash

Greater Anglia services through Colchester are facing disruption until the end of the day, after a car crashed on the level crossing on East Street.

Services on a major Essex rail network are expected to face disruption until the end of the day following an earlier crash.


The crash at a level crossing between Colchester and Hythe forced the closure of some lines, causing disruption to Greater Anglia services.
The incident has affected routes between London Liverpool Street and Clacton, London Liverpool Street and Colchester Town, and Colchester and Colchester Town.

The crash has caused damage to railway infrastructure, including overhead wire equipment, which must now be replaced.

Realtime Trains is showing a Bi-mode train was in use between Colchester and Colchester Town, I would suggest in diesel mode due to damage to OLE equipment as per linked article above.

No they were 720s, presumably the OLE isolation allowed electric traction on the east side of the triangle or the wires through East Gates level crossing were reenergised but out of alignment for electric services to operate until the remedial works were undertaken overnight.
