Does anyone know whether VT has changed its rules about accepting London International (off-peak) tickets at peak times? When I've done it before they've been valid at all times but their booking engine doesn't seem to want to allow a departure before 9am. Is that a mistake or have they become stricter recently?

I would imagine it is a mistake in Avantix considering the restriction...
I think you have to use the Eurostar booking bit on the Virgin site to get them.

It comes up if you put the code LNE into the destination box. The site will let you buy from anywhere to LNE but when I used it a while ago to book from Derby I actually ended up with a ticket to London Terminals rather than to London International (CIV). The booking confirmation said London International but the ticket said London Terminals. I presume it works better if you buy from a Virgin-served origin but I haven't had reason to try that myself.
These tickets are only available from the ticket office as they have to see your Eurostar tickets, but may accept a Eurostar booking confirmation instead.

it's more straightforward to simply ring up Eurostar Domestic Sales in Ashford, the number is on the seat61.com website

I bought several CIV tickets on the Virgin website last year (2009), but this facility seems to have been withdrawn. On the face of it though, it still appears possible to buy these tickets online by using the ScotRail website and by entering '5470london international' as the origin/destination.
Virgin will still allow a ticket to be bought with that same destination if you go to the 'Advanced Search' bit of the site. It brings up LNE prices but without trying it I have no idea what's printed on the ticket if you do.
Thanks FC for the restriction info - it seems the VT site is incorrect here. I'll try at a ticket office.
I can only see advance tickets available on Virgin's website for tickets from LNE.
They are not available on every train, and most tomorrow are £51, when it should be off-peak.
I have a Eurostar journey coming up soon, but I will probably stay in London overnight, so I'm not sure if I can get a CIV ticket or not.

Eurostar domestic sales once told me that you could use a CIV ticket provided you departed from London within 24 hours of having arrived.
Yeah thats OK, to quote The Manual,
"The outward portion must not be dated more than one day in advance of the passenger's ticket between London and the Continent. The inwards portion must not be dated more than one day after the passenger's ticket between the Continent and London."

Right.... that's interesting because whenever I buy a CIV London International ticket in connection with my Eurostar day trips they are valid for two months on the return portion even though I am coming back on the same day... The return half of the one I used for my trip yesterday is marked "valid until 03JNR11".
Come to think of it, so is the outward portion - start date 4th* November, valid until 3rd January....
*Start date is correct as on this occasion I did an all nighter at St Pancras in order to catch the 05.25 Eurostar and therefore had to travel to London on the evening of the 4th.
