I just saw that. I presume that it's possibly unprecedented for a driver to jump from their train unless it was about to crash.

I don't know to what extent this topic can be discussed. In Portugal, there is a law that disallows the reporting of suicide cases and attempts, to prevent a cascading effect.
(It doesn't mean that suicide cases aren't reported, it's just that the details are muddied to explain disruptions without specifying the causes).
Looking at French-based reporting it seems that this kind of reporting is much more relaxed. The driver in question is identified by local news sources and even the probable causes that led to the suicide are described.
I would advise caution reading into this if you understand French or want to use translation tools.
Still, it's very sad to know one of our people decided to take their own life on the job. It's the first time a driver jumps out of a train at close to line speed (300kph) and is sure to spark a lot of discussions.

I've had a good think about this one - and on the basis that we no longer have similar threads in the UK section to purely report a person taking their own life, and the sensitive nature of the incident - I don't think there is a great deal further to discuss, especially as some rather 'raw' information is already out there, as @Giugiaro has said. I have also amended the thread title slightly.
Of course, if there are further developments and someone wishes to post an update on this particularly tragic case, then please use the 'report' function and let one of us know, so that this can be done.
I'm sure we all agree that this is a horrible incident, and that our thoughts are with the friends, family and colleagues of the individual involved.
