Has anyone an insight in to the Christmas engineering work at Euston?

Primarily looking at travelling north on the 27/28 Dec

Many thanks

I assume the recommended alternative routes will be Chiltern to Birmingham, East Midland Railway to Sheffield then onto Transpennine or another East Midland Railway service to Manchester or Liverpool and LNER / Lumo to Edinburgh and Scotrail if travelling to Glasgow.

Changing at Birmingham will allow you to get to smaller WCML destinations such as Lancaster and Preston, but this will involve a 5 to 10 minute walk to change from Moor Street to New Street stations at Birmingham.

My intended journey was Stansted Mountfitchet to Preston (via Tottenham Hale/Euston).

I might look at Stan airport and go across the midlands

Cambridge is closed at Christmas for resignalling work and joining up the tracks at Cambridge South.

I'm assuming journey planners aren't fully updated yet? As much I would love to get a direct train Euston to start my train journey to Finland!

At the moment "Booking Horizons" for Avanti are 17th December for weekdays, 13th December Saturdays, 14th December Sundays. Hopefully they will confirm train times for your date of travel within the next few weeks.

Your quickest route from London will be from St Pancras with changes at Sheffield and Manchester, a touch over 4hrs albeit with a sporty (and unadvertised) connection at Sheffield. Note that Nottingham Forest are at Man U on the 27th, so the Sheffield - Manchester trains will be very busy.

A bit longer at 4h15 but with only one (very doable) connection will be Marylebone to Birmingham then a change between Moor St and New St to catch a Preston service (You can do this without the walk between the two Birmingham stations by chaning at Leamington and Coventry, although that is tight at Coventry)

Longer still at 4h30 is Kings Cross with a single change at Leeds.
