Christmas and New Year 2014

I thought this would be a good thread to make.

Everything to do with this time of year can be mentioned:
Last minute shopping for Christmas dinner and pressies.
New Year's resolutions.
How you've decorated the tree and house.
Favourite songs and films.
What you'll be watching on telly.
Where you'll be traveling to around Christmas.
Bah Humbugs.
Etc, etc &c.

For me, I'm staying at home on Christmas. We got the chocolates from Asda and the rest from Morrisons and Iceland.
I got all the pressents but haven't wrapped any. The tree has tons of tinsel on it!! On TV I'll be watching Enterprise at 5am, Back to the Fututre at 11am and Jurasic Park at 3:30pm.
My ''christmassy'' films are: Die Hard, Jingle all the Way, Scrooge(A. Sim), Home Alone and Toy Story. My least favorite is the Star Wars holiday special.
I don't mind any music with jingly noises on it.
I haven't got ideas fpr resolutions yet.

I've been unusually organised this year. Had the presents sorted by the weekend and about to start on our nut roast for Christmas Day!

Crimbo Eve - Freight Hunting
Crimbo Day - off to see my Mum and brothers and sister, also get to use the Crimbo Day Buses home
Boxing Day - NWVRT are running a special Bus Service using Preserved Buses so i will nip up to get a ride or 2

My Christmas is very quiet.

We only have a small family, so we buy big presents for my 3 & a half year old niece & the grown ups are having a £10 Secret Santa, then going with other family members to the Pantomime next Monday.

Christmas Dinner at my sister's house, which is very convenient being next door, so there'll be me, Mum, my sister, brother-in-law, niece and family friends.

Sister & brother-in-law doing the cooking, I'm doing the vegetable preparation & a bit of childcare!

We will spend all afternoon next door, then are politely asked to go home when Downton Abbey comes on.

Boxing Day will be recovering from Christmas Dinner and relaxing.

As always these days, you find it harder to find anything decent to watch on television at Christmas.

My good lady wife will be hosting fourteen at lunch on Christmas Day as usual and we will be being visited over the next three days by family members and all the grandchildren, so matters will be hectic in the nicest possible way.

I'm not th biggest fan of Christmas and all associated 'tat'. Making Christmas happen at work has led to some very long weeks recently so two days of sleep are in order ready for an early on on the 27th Dec. There may be a bit of nervous phone-watching as well with major engineering work on ECML South ... Months of planning ride on the next four days

Yes I am. My Mum finally got her knee pain sorted and my Dad got kicked out of hospital because of bed shortage so I'll see him at home. Also my brother has a paid job ontop of his no pay job now which is very hard to get in Grimsby and he's been working hard to find paid work for ages. My Nottingham brother has had a baby. The council are getting rid of the crazy paving next year. The Cleethorpes to Manchester train was saved.

Nothing much has happened for me but I'm happy with most of the news in my family.

I'm not really a big fan of Christmas, I find it gets more tiresome every year and I find new year even more tiresome.

I'll certainly be hoping to get to a football match on Boxing Day and escape from it all even though there are no trains.

I don't really like Christmas at all as the country shuts down for 2 days and I'm at the age where I really just don't care. I'm not a kid anymore, and I'm not wanting children of my own anytime soon. I get tomorrow off work at the insistence of my school, meh, just gives me chance to go and do a dress rehearsal for New Years Eve tonight. Shortly headed out for an evening on the local beer, Leo. I work Boxing Day but after Tuesday next week get six days off. I worked every NYD between 12 and 20 so this is just my second chance to have an NYE and not care about the next day.

Why don't I like Christmas? I don't like conformity, I'm an individual. I'm not religious and don't like things being rammed down my throat, but over here, it isn't and tomorrow feels like any other day. Tonight feels like an ordinary Wednesday. I don't want to give gifts I don't want to buy and I don't want to receive things I don't really want. I'm not a big fan of the forced family time at Christmas but, I concede I miss my family and my dog 6500 miles away back home.

Christmas, this year its time to ensure I'm fine in my head because I knew this time of year if any would provoke bouts of homesickness. I feel a bit glum in a way but I'm living in a wonderful country, so I'm really, pretty OK.

It's mostly things I'm not prepared to go into on a public forum - if nothing else because it's neither appropriate nor the place for it.


But some of it, in simple terms, boils down to; money worries, people problems, relationship troubles and the attempted theft of my Mazda last weekend, for the second time in two months, leaving it immobile with a damaged ignition and cut roof.

I'm as non religious as they come but it's no barrier to enjoying Christmas.

Snap - I'm a bit of a humbug anyway and much as 2014 has in many ways been a positive year of change, I'm starting to sicken of it now and what with Trams, Comonwealth Games, Festival and Xmas almost streight after I dont feel the citizens of Edinburgh have had much of a breather, something youl maybe agree with?

Sorry to hear about your car, Know your proud of it. As to the sest, hope things improve esp relationship stuff. I'd guess things at work cant be rosy iether with the ongoing boardroom turmoil at LB.

This Christmas, I got socks and a box of Yorkshire Tea for Christmas. The two essentials one can never do without! Then it's visiting a friend in hospital on the 26th (anxious about her) and off to see my boyfriend in Milton Keynes on the 27th.

I love Christmas! I'm at home with my parents and one of my presents was a DVD of Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which we all watched (I asked my parents for this, as the Disney Classics [not the Pixar films such as Toy Story, etc. the traditionally animates Disneys] are only shown on free TV channels once in a blue moon. Why are they not shown often? Cinderella only had its free TV premiere a few days ago and it was made in 1950!). Oh, as well as the usual Christmas Dinner (though we had nut roasts as we were all vegeterian). (We'd have probably watched a kids/family film on TV anyway had we not had Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs).

We also had a vegetarian dinner although if it wasn't for the kids we really wouldn't bother with Christmas. I'll be glad to get out tomorrow and go to the footy.
