Caught this last night (Channel 5) as CT travelled through Thailand and Myanmar (ex Burma), including the infamous Death Railway, the Bridge over the River Kwai (that wasn't as per the book/movie), the most rickety and bumpy train I've ever seen(!), and the journey to Mandaley.

Found it quite interesting, particularly the poignant section on the Death Railway.

I have enjoyed both, and the thing about Portillo's Euro Trip's Is that they are interesting Journey's which you could make yourself at some point. while Tarrant's trips are more spectacular but somewhat more difficult and expensive to do yourself.

Got the Chile/Bolivia one to catch up on.

Enjoyed the Russian one tonight - another railway building exercise associated with a lot of deaths though - a sign of the times back then I suspect?

Just caught up on the Andes show. Great series, love the history of the countries and railways too.

Have to say I was a little disappointed with the Japanese episode.

He was very excited with the first train he got on but it looked distinctly like a cousin of our own Javelin to me.

Then he was excited about 200 mph running, but I can do that across the water in France.

Finally, no mention of the maglev - yet alone a ride on the test track.
