Chris Hughes, of Mastermind and Eggheads fame has died aged 77, When I was a Guards Instructor at Ilford RTC, he joined BR as a Guard and then became a Driver, really nice bloke and although we were a little apprehensive about training him he was no problem at all.

I've just heard this announced on the radio.
I knew he had an interest in railways from watching Eggheads but I hadn't realised he'd worked on the railway. Sad news indeed.

I have, or used to have, a railway quiz book compiled by him, dating from when he won Mastermind - really interesting to have a look at. I always enjoyed watching him on Eggheads and looking out for his little snippets of railway. Very sad to read of his death - may he rest in peace.
