:?: Suggestions please for a reasonably priced walk-up adult return fare, travelling off peak, not Sunday, no advance fares, as follows:-

Outward: Chorley -> Lancaster -> Workington (via Barrow-in-Furness (preferably) or alternatively via Carlisle).

Return (Same day): Workington -> Lancaster -> Chorley (via Carlisle).

Don't think you can get anything cheaper than the off peak day return via Barrow-in-Furness at £27.30

Make a circular journey with a circular ticket ;)
You could use an Off-Peak day return from Chorley to Wigton; route 'via Penrith' for £23.30.
Then when you travel via Barrow on the outward, you'd pay an additional £8.95 for a change of route excess on the outward portion only.

Break your outward journey at Workington, and continue up the Cumbrian coast until you reach Wigton, where you switch to the return portion.

Total = £32.25

:) Thanks, presumably a change of route excess in this example is o.k. if the £23.30 route via Penrith ticket is an off-peak day return (CDR), but the route "any permitted" is an anytime return (SOR) priced at £41.20?

(Half the difference of £17.90 being the £8.95 referred to by JakeF.

Yes - make sure you ask specifically for the change of route excess on one portion only, or you may find yourself overcharged!

:) Thanks again. Seems cheaper than a cheap day return from Chorley to Lancaster, then a "Cumbria Round Robin" ticket.
