Chorley to Bolton evenings

I am travelling to Bolton tomorrow evening to meet a few friends for a drink.The return fare is £6.30 but to Manchester all stations ii is only £4.35.As Bolton is in Greater Manchester would I be allowed to get the Manchester ticket and get off at Bolton.

If your outward journey is between 6:30pm and 9pm you can get an Evening Return for half the price of an Off-Peak Return.

If this ticket isn't available from Chorley, see if you can stop short.

There is no break of journey restriction I can see for the Evening Return, so the £4.35 ticket is perfectly valid for stopping short at Bolton.

Thanks for that.I will get the Manchester ticket and get off at Bolton.I just didnt fancy getting stopped at Bolton with the revenue inspectors because they usually work until about 8

I don't understand why any ECDs are available from Chorley... it's not on this map.

There being no Chorley to Bolton Evening Return is incongruous with the other places outside GM that have them... e.g. Congleton has them to Macclesfield, Prestbury, Adlington Ches etc all the way in to Manchester.

That may be a bad example of something that does follow the rules though, because there are Evening Returns from Congleton to Salford Crescent, Clifton, Mauldeth Road - Heald Green inclusive and Eccles and Patricroft (and goodness knows where else!). This doesn't seem to fit in with the structure quoted, which is, for reference:

Cheap Evening Return tickets are half the price of the Adult Off-Peak Day Return ticket and are available as follows:

between any two stations in the grey area on the map (change of trains is allowed)
between any two stations in the white area or any station in the white area to any station in the grey area or vice versa (no change of trains allowed and your journey does not go beyond Manchester)

You have definetly got to change trains to go from Congleton to Heald Green! But I wonder if you are supposed to go via Wilmslow, given it says you can't go beyond Manchester with them?
