Chorley to Liverpool via Preston and Ormskirk is without a shadow of doubt a permitted route.

Chorley to Liverpool via Preston and Wigan/Warrington is not permitted due to doubling back at Leyland, however NRE may well give you an itinerary.

Two changes via Ormskirk and quite a long time.
Easier to get the 109 or local Chorley bus to Balshaw Lane from the bus station across the road from the, dare I say it, train station. Or half an hour walk from the town centre to Balshaw Lane.

That does not make the route invalid.

Of course rail may not always be the best mode. In some cases buses and coaches can be a much more convenient alternative.

Three to Lime Street (can you still get from the Merseyrail platform there without going through the barriers?).

Having had a brief check on NRE, it appears that going via Preston is absolutely fine, even if both trains stop in Leyland.

The journey from Euxton is a lot quicker, if 57603 can get there easily enough.

Hi.
I live in central Chorley so Euxton would not be a problem, but i would prefer to go from Chorley, via Leyland. Going to be catching the 23:02 Liverpool Lime Street ( LIV) back to Euxton Balshaw lane (EBA) 23:59 on saturday then walking back to Chorley.

How about via Bolton and Wigan? I don't have the mileage figure for Chorley to Liverpool via Preston/Ormskirk, or Leyland/Wigan or Bolton/Wigan.

As a matter of interest I once wanted to travel from LPool to Preston after lunchtIme. I turned up at Exchange only to be told I would get to Preston earlier if I went to Lime St and got the Wigan train and changed there then get the Blackburn train and change at Chorley for Preston rather than using the main line North from Liverpool. No bother about using the shortest journey at that time. Also shows how sparse the passenger service was outside peak hours on main lines in steam days.
