Chippenham to Birmingham Help Please

I need to travel from Chippenham to Birmingham one afternoon next week, the cheapest single ticket I've found is an advanced single at £27.40, changing at Bristol TM.

Can any of you with detailed knowledge of the fares system suggest any 'splits' that would give a saving?

Also, the advanced ticket says 'specified train only' is this for both parts or just the XC part of the journey.

On journeys that include Bristol-Birmingham, it's often worth checking splits at Cheltenham.

And, for next Tuesday (for example) you can get some Chippenham-Cheltenham advance singles for £10.50, and some Cheltenham-Birmingham advance singles for £11.40 (or even for £8.80 if you are prepared to change trains at Cheltenham and endure a 20-minute wait). So a total of £21.90 (or £19.30 with an extra change).

I was looking at the trains from Chippenham at 1309 and 1344, and at the trains from Cheltenham at 1441, 1501 and 1511.

Just to mention I have PMd the OP a cheaper alternative ticket for Chippenham to Birmingham. I have used it myself on many occasions with no problems, but I have decided to not mention it here on the thread because of recent changes to the routing guide which removed some permitted routes on some journeys based on posts on this forum (and so it is obvious this forum is being monitored for "loophole" tickets). I am sure quite a few people here will already know what ticket I am talking about anyway.
