I suspect that most of Newlyn's catch goes to high-end restaurants in London, France and -er - Newlyn!

Does anybody buy "rock salmon" or even actually eat it?
Also sold as rock eel, people just asked for "rock".

It can be any one of several species of small shark

*Noticed cod roe in a southern chippy. Not seen that anywhere else.
Only ever seen it once in a chippy. Looked much the same as a fish cake.

There is an excellent cafe in Leigh on Sea that serves pan fried roe on toast.

Almost all of it is moved by huge refrigerated lorries out of Cornwall, at one time a lot into the E.U. but Brexit scuppered most of that! The 'high-end' restaurants in Newlyn (all two of them!) may use local shellfish and some fish from 'day boats' but won't be competing in Newlyn's fish market.

In the dying days of the Deltics there used to be a "move" which allowed about 25 minutes at Newark Northgate so I used to hurry round to the chippy (Mr Chips) for a pie and chips covered in curry sauce then back to the station to eat it while being hauled by gods own motive power. At Berwick there was a similar chance to go to Mays chip shop and back for Deltic haulage to Newcastle.
