Whilst at Preston Road station today I was passed by a rather unusual Chiltern Railways unit, unfortunely I was'nt quick enough to get my camera out but I did get the number (960301) can anyone throw some light on what class this unit was? I think it may have been a sandite unit as the windows were all painted out and it only consisted of 2 cars.

My guess is it is a sandite unit as the leaf fall is now well under way, and that I misread the last few digits of the number! it was right on me before It registered!!!! do you know what is the water cannon unit used for?

It blasts the rails with water to clean leaf mulch off them. Works better than sandite apparently.

The chiltern-based units are mainly water cannon (I think)
