The Kiddy trains in the morning form a big part of the birmingham rush hour. Too many to load/offload in birmingham to produce decent end-to-end running times.

The power doors may help. Chiltern have yet to decide whether to run those after the doors are fitted west of Moor Street in the morning.

Are they ever going to start using them on weekends? Are Chiltern planning on bringing more of them in to run more services once they're refurbished? Would be nice to get a loco-hauled set on a weekend, and also on a later departure from Brum-London when people can actually get out of work in time to catch one! Used to be able to catch the last departure from Tame Bridge to Marylebone when they were run by WMSR, and also a weekend afternoon train back. Nothing against the 168s as they are much better than Pendos on the WCML, but they're hardly Mk3s.

Do you want to catch one to commute or just to ride behind a loco because if it is the latter I believe there are heritage and tours for that, I really cannot see the cost effectiveness to run a loco hauled set so just enthusiasts can bash them.

The track access application (89th STAA) is more emphatic than that:

"Operational performance means Class 67 locomotive-hauled trains with slam doors will not operate trains from Kidderminster in the morning peak. This results in one service from Kidderminster remaining with Class 168 stock and operating as a through service linked to a semi-fast train that otherwise would start from further south. Once the Mark 3 coach fleet has sliding plug doors in 2012, this will revert"

That doesn't read much like 'yet to decide'...

Neither, i just find the Mk3s alot more comfortable and quieter than 168s.
