Chiltern Super Off Peak fares

Chiltern Super Off Peak fares are now advertised as not permitting break of journey.
Was this change made at the beginning of this year, or has it been in place longer?
While I know Chiltern offer some very good value fares of this type, this restriction seems to fly in the face of the established patterns of break of journey being allowed except on advance tickets.

I am assuming you mean that break of journey is barred on the outward portion only?

There's no mention of such a restriction on NRE, though the morning restriction leaving London has changed to not being valid on trains timed to depart London before 0830 Mondays to Fridays (excluding public holidays) rather than not being valid between 0630 and 0829.

They are using the OPR ticket type that London Northwestern use, that bars break of journey at ticket type level on the outward in the same manner as the old BR Savers and SuperSavers did.

Id imagine its because the Super Off Peak Return to Leamington Spa Rte Banbury is about £20 cheaper than the Anytime Day Return to London Terminals Route Plus High Speed from a lot of coastal Kent stations and both are valid on the same trains in the morning peak?

I stand corrected. I strongly suspect, however, that nobody at Chiltern would bat an eyelid at a break of journey on the outward leg of such a ticket.

Most staff don't bat an eyelid at same-day break of journey except in niche cases where you'd be doing it to avoid an extra fare e.g. the Lancaster/Preston issue. I suspect that is because the tickets don't have it printed on them so they don't off the top of their head know, though even when it was standard in BR days they didn't challenge it either.

If it's this, it's hard to see how a break of journey in London could be detected, unless the leak of revenue is large enough to justify following passengers from St Pancras to wherever they go other than Marylebone.

The Chiltern site also says you need a "valid london travelcard" to make a cross-London journey, even with a "+via Banbury" ticket. Chiltern's super off peak tickets were all OPR ones last year, so I think this is the result of a user interface change.
