Big problems for Chiltern this morning, with a fire damaging cables near Kilburn Tube station. Disruption expected for the rest of the day today. No details yet on what will happen for the next few days.

Alterations to services between Birmingham Snow Hill and London Marylebone
Due to a fire next to the track earlier today between Neasden South Jn and London Marylebone all lines are blocked.
Impact
Train services between Birmingham Snow Hill and London Marylebone will be suspended between West Ruislip and London Marylebone. Disruption is expected until the end of the day on 05/10/16.
Customer Advice
Customers should use the Central Line between West Ruislip and Central London.
For local journeys to / from Wembley Stadium / Sudbury / Northolt, please use alternative routes in the area.
Additional Information
A major fire has occurred, burning through cabling on a bridge which Chiltern Railways services run over near Kilburn underground station.At least 9 cables are severely damaged, most of which carry up to 48 individual signalling cables.

No trains can currently run between Wembley / Harrow-on-the-Hill and London Marylebone.

Currently, we are terminating trains at West Ruislip & Harrow-on-the-Hill for London Underground connections.A few variations will occur (trains which are too long for the platform will have to run to Wembley Stadium instead where the underground connection is unfortunately a 10 minute walk away at Wembley Park).Several trains will be cancelled completely in order to reduce queues of trains waiting to access West Ruislip station.

The disruption is expected to last all of Tuesday 4th October, we are awaiting updates on the rectification plan in order to assess the situation for Wednesday 5th October.

They seem quite content with turning them back at West Ruislip. Also capacity at Paddington would be an issue

Content as in telling passengers to use alternative routes if possible?
I'm aware of the capacity issues, but I'd have thought an hourly off-peak service would be possible.

There's only a limited amount of drivers with the route knowledge to Paddington

As well as the capacity and route knowledge issues, running and advertising a proportion of services through to and from Paddington means all the passengers will turn up there and not all being able to get on the limited number of trains, while any trains that turn back further out will be almost empty. Sending everyone to West Ruislip, which is easy to get to by Tube, avoids his problem.

Running trains to Paddington via Greenford also requires a Guard on board, of which there are a finite number given it's normally only two trains a day.

There's also the more significant issue of needing to be able to run trains from West Ruislip towards London to be able to access the branch in the first place...

I think he knows that but ws making the point that by doing the turning at West Ruislip they will be using up lots of paths that will prevent anything from going into Paddington.

Good work by Chiltern staff today in keeping passengers informed. What I would like to know is why Stoke Mandeville was in complete darkness at 5.15 this morning. ? Not even illumination from the train describers. Of course one idiot shines his LED bike light up and down which I guess did not amuse the driver of the approaching train although he had more important things on his mind such as how to tell passengers that they would have to get a bus from Harrow to Central London ! ( Subsequently amended enroute to advise that Met services were running from Harrow & the Jubilee from Wembley Park)

Appears Chiltern are anticipating as normal service tomorrow morning but with possible short formed services due to trains being out of position tonight.
