It seems as though all Birmingham applicants have received the “we would like to know more about you” email. The interesting part is they stated you may not hear back from us. This can be frustrating but roll on the 90 minute questionnaire!

Banbury applicant here and received the same questionnaire!

I received my 1st email from chiltern railways and it said in the email - We would like to learn more about you and have prepared some questions for you to answer. The questionnaire has a time limit of 90 minutes.

Has anyone completed this questionnaire? If so, what will be the next step if you pass the questionnaire?

I believe this questionnaire is purely around which depot you have applied for, where you live in relation to your preferred depot, whether or not you have previously worked for Chiltern or the railway in general etc. This would form part of the initial sift to remove ineligible applicants.

Why would that take 90 mins? Not questioning your response, just intrigued as to why that would take an hour and a half to complete. Thanks in advance.

It won’t take 90 mins. People who sat it last year got told it can take up to 45 mins but it had no time limit. Now it’s a 90 min time limit. I think because it’s now limited they have been very generous with the time given as some people won’t be as speedy as others.

Makes sense. I initially thought this was a SJE type exercise but 90 mins seemed a little bit too long even for a thorough SJE exercise. I was about to pull out my SJE revision material. Appreciate the feedback.

It is literally a quick multiple choice thing regarding whether you've sat tests before, whether you have safety crit experience and your location. Shouldn't take anyone more than 10 minutes unless you're working out exact timings for the relevant questions, even then, call it 20!

Regarding the other queries on here, only tests done at an OPC centre (or TOC centre) count towards lives, anything sat at home does not.

You can apply for other roles within 6monhs of sitting OPC tests, but cannot sit any other tests within the 6 month period. This is so you are not able to remember the tests exactly as they were (though I would add they were very familiar even 2 years late for me). So if you sat a CBI within the last 6 months and Chiltern use MMI or vice versa you may not proceed at the point. Depending on how long the Chiltern process is of course

I think the next stage would be a RAAT test before an assessment at Watford. Also on the questionnaire I filled in about my details did any of you notice there was an answer box towards the start with no question above it but you had to fill it in?… I wrote in “there’s no question above this space” anyone else??

There was just a letter 'a' if i recall, so I put my age. I'm going to look like a proper melon if I've assumed incorrectly.

Yeah exactly they didn’t clarify did they?! I guess age makes more sense. You won’t look like a melon because they should have made it clear. We shouldn’t get turned away on that basis.

Third box I put NI No as it’s how they identify you for test scores.

So I answered I live within 45 mins of the depot. However, the next question asks how long would it take on public transport in rush hour. It would take me an hour which I was honest about.

Do you reckon that's it for me? I won't hear anything else back now as I'm outside the catchment area?

What are the extra enhanced tests CHILTERN do? Is it the DFFT or the VSE?

They will definitely be checking using the NI number so I wouldn’t worry. I guess the questions give them a feel.

I think you will be ok, if your main commute is via a car and under 45
Mins you will be ok!

I was slightly annoyed there was no 35 mins and under option, I’m a 28 minute commute and had to put the 45 min option which makes me seem right on the edge.
