are chiltern still going ahead with the refurb of 16 more mk 111s ?

As far as im aware of then Yes, The first coach is already at Wabtec (Doncaster) undergoing door testing - Wabtec are currently testing out a new design of door for Chilterns Mk3s, which will in turn also involve the remodelling of the vestibule areas - Toilets’ to be removed and rebuilt (W&S RFM Styled), vestibule area size to be increased for disability reasons and possibly - if my memory's correct, 444 Styled intercoridor style doors - Vestibule - Door - Corridor - Door - Vestibule...

Was in fact covered in Modern Railways fairly recently! Doors designed by Wabtec & The Builder & Designer of the Siemens 444 Doors - first one is undergoing Fault Free Running...

the vehicle the trail door is on is an ex gner 1st class hst car with serious side collision damage its been there years and was heavily robbed during the gner mk3 refurb,i have been on this vehical and all one end has been stripped out as the door does take up a lot of room,i was just wondering what route chiltern were putting there vehicles on and if its 16 cars from storage i dread to think what state they will be in as the whrexham /shropshire ones were very shabby

I'm getting a bit confused...

Does anyone have a comprehensive list of how many Mk3 LHCS DB Regio/Chiltern/Arriva have - both owned outright and on hire?

Are there 3 for Chiltern that are done then? Or are they to W&S specification? I wonder what the livery for Chiltern LHCS will look like?!

They're Wrexham and Shropshire liveried carriages, I'm not sure whether they had the full WSMR makeover or something a bit more basic, but they were the last three carriages to be released into service with W&S after refurb. I assume that the Chiltern livery for the loco hauled stock will be similar to that worn by 82302.

I’ve had a go at cataloguing DBs’ mark 3s and IMO it’s a bit of a minefield. I could do with getting my hands on the 2011 Platform 5 Coaching Stock book, currently I’m working from 2010 data that has been occasionally updated over the past year.

13 FOs (8 of which are former Direct Rail Services charter train vehicles).

16 TSOs, of which 12 are former Wrexham and Shropshire vehicles; and three of these, as brel york states, are conversions from FOs (12173-175). One of the former W&S vehicles is in use in the Chiltern Banbury-Marylebone loco hauled rake, the remainder of which is made up of three hired in Cargo-D mark 3s, a DB FO with TSO seating (11029) and a DB TSO.

There are also 11 RFMs, three of which are former Wrexham and Shropshire refurbished carriages. The WAG Express uses a mark 3 RFM hired in from Cargo-D (10249).

Arriva Trains Wales also has a number of mark 2 carriages; either in use in the WAG Express or in store.

The above has not included the DB Executive train, and in addition one of the former Wrexham and Shropshire rakes (3xTSO plus RFM) included in the numbers above is in daily use Monday-Friday on the Chiltern B'ham Moor Street to Marylebone working.

I fully expect to have some of the above data corrected, I've given it my best shot!

Now, just to clarify something else...

fgwrich posts about a coach at wabtec for work which has undergone succesful testing, brel_york also talks abot a coach undergoing trial work (but is a partial wreck).

Is it the same coach?

Thanks!

All clear now. Let's hope work starts on a "proper" coach very soon.

One of the former W&S vehicles is in use in the Chiltern Banbury-Marylebone loco hauled rake

It now appears to have been removed again from the Chiltern rake and is at Wembley LMD. Just to be clear, the vehicle in question is TSO 12059 which carries WSMR livery but is internally unrefurbished and still retains its Virgin Trains interior.

the work done on the w& s vehicles at wabtec was to the same spec as those from marcroft

Not exactly the same spec. The Marcroft coaches had the ceiling panels in the saloon replaced with a completely new design and the toilets were remodelled. The Wabtec coaches, although refurbished, retain both these items as per the original mark III design.

It would take a fair bit of cutting & pasting and 'shopping...

But wouldn't it essentially look like a 442 (or 3 156s) topped with a 67 and tailed with a DVT?

yes thats right ,we just painted the toilets out ,put a new pan in and relayed the floor, the original ceiling light diffusers are so brittle im suprised they havnt collapsed in traffic, did marcroft change the aircon grills as east coast and xc fleets left these in as it was to expensive to replace the extrusions that hold it up

Apparently five DB Regio Mk3s were taken to Wabtec recently. Anyone have details of which ones they are?

Cheers

Will the coaches/dvts that are now overhauled be painted into Chiltern colours or wsmr colours or will they stay in the same livery. Does any anyone know which other 5 dvts will be used by Chiltern and will they be renumbered in 82/3 series.

Are ATW's refurbished mark3s for WAG express from December going to be power-door fitted? If so, perhaps that was the stock sent recently?

I really doubt it, Chiltern's won't be ready for ages I don't think and I'm sure the WAG set is meant to be ready for December?
