I thought that you might enjoy browsing these 1970's photos of the Chiltern line, from Greenford to Princess Riceborough, on the Didcot-Chinnor coal train.

My old work colleague, Brian Daniels, took them. Probably when route learning.
The photos give a good idea of the layout and the stations on the line when they still had semaphore signaling. I am sure Brian would appreciate your comments and would be pleased to give permission to use any of the photos for BV, if they are of interest.

Another set of, from the cab pictures that you may find of interest is from Oxford to Bletchley on the Truro-Etruria clay train. We used to change over with an electric loco at the bottom of the Bletchley flyover and return with the empties. This was an interesting job for us as we used to work the southern half of the train from Eastleigh-Didcot and the return working from Didcot to Taunton via Reading and Westbury. Between the three workings we got to cover a fair bit of railway, when it was still interesting, with stations, signalboxes, goods yards and numerous junctions still operating. Even stations that had been closed some years were still pretty much as they were left after closure. The "barren" railway was still a few years away.

From 1966 to the 80's we had a number of turns over the Oxford-Cambridge line, to Bletchley, Bedford, Blisworth, Northampton and from Bedford to Leagrave, Luton, and back via Cricklewood, Acton Wells and Acton Mainline.

They are brilliant, Bill, thanks. Brian's site also contains a massive and well organised gallery of locomotive and general pictures too. A true mine of information!

Thanks for your comments guys. I will pass them on to Brian. Don't forget that I have a fotopic site too, which you will find at: http://billreid678.fotopic.net/

I haven't done any updates since April as I have been plagued with a leg problem since then. However. Things have improved considerably over the last month and I plan a visit to Scotland in a couple of weeks or so when I hope to get out and about with the camera a few times.

Cheers.

Wow. High Wycombe station was actually interesting at one point: I never knew it had such a fantastic collection of semaphores! All those pictures were great!
