Has anyone had experience of using this (Chiltern tickets sent to mobile phones) i was just wondering where i scan my barcode when i get to MYB, is there a scanner on the ticket gate or does my ticket have to be scanned by a member of staff.

Generally though is it easy to use.

Although I haven't been to MYB for a while I do seem to remember that W&S advertised that you scan your phone on the barrier (self service) and that staff assistance is not needed. I don't know if this is the procedure CH use though. I would guess so as the technology is there AFAIAA.

To be honest, I don't know (but there are members of this forum who work or pass through there who will, so I'm sure it will be confirmed soon!) however I expect you will have to show it to a member of staff. Gates can never be left unattended* (unless left open) so there will be staff on hand to open the gate for you.

(* At certain stations there is a remote monitoring facility e.g. for some platforms at Aberdeen. I don't think such a thing should be allowed and it's not good practice, but they do exist).

I tried to scan a mobile ticket on the gates at Marylebone that purport to accept mobile tickets and print at home tickets (they are part of the array to the left hand side as you look at the platforms from the concourse, behind the ticket office), but nothing happened.

IIRc there are only a couple of the barriers that have the scanners as outlined above..

they seem to work well in most instances too - though tech is and can fail at times

Whilst two of the gates do have scanners, they're not currently active, and you just show your phone/self-print ticket to one of the staff on the gateline and they let you out.

Theoretically, they should scan the barcode with a handheld scanner linked to Avantix Mobile, but that only refers to the train by its Retail Service ID, whilst the printed manifest uses the headcode, and neither give times!

For added "fun", fitting the scanners has rendered the Oyster readers on those gates inoperative as well...

Cheers,

Barry

So there won't be any problems when the gates for platforms 0-5 start to read barcodes/QR codes then!!
