According to Chiltern's website this is no longer a thing, so as it is not locked out I guess we can infer it is now always declassified. Does anyone know why they don't remove the antimacassars and put up Standard Class signs?

Firstly yes it's declassified, secondly, probably because they can't be bothered. The interior is still business zone and changing the livery and then interior for standard class would cost a lot of money. Or they might reintroduce it at some point. Also remember these are trains that are most likely to be replaced in the next few years so spending money refitting then would just not be the smartest use of money.

Chiltern really is in a dire culture if taking the antimacassars off is too much effort. How long would that take, a minute per coach?

Stickers saying "Standard Class" would be similarly easy and cheap.

I am not suggesting swapping the seats. I quite like them!

I shall have to book a trip on these loco hauled trains to Brum again soon, may strike lucky in blagging a club seat on a std ticket. I like that service, I know it is slightly slower than Avanti, but it is more comfortable. I shall have to work out the services for Jan / Feb.
