They're only now announcing Evergreen 3? What will they announce next? "We have German owners!"? "The WSMR has links to our operation!"? "We want a new station at West Hampstead!"?

...Slow! Is good that they are though.

Or "we've opened new platforms at Birmingham Moor Street", oh wait...

I know, not their fault, but what the heck. :p

Still, got to give Chiltern credit. They do run a fine service. They've never once caused me any delays, even through no fault of their own. Comfortably the most reliable long-distance operator (even with their PPM being measured at short-distance rates), and a neat colour scheme to boot. I sincerely hope that PE3 gets through; if they do adopt the Oxord-Bicester line, I'll be sure to use it should it run through to Mrylebone as planned and at the first reasonable attempt I get.

I hope they book some posessions for the work then, otherwise it will be May 11 before it happens.

Probably best not to think about that, SWT Driver...

If PE3 were to fall short, or worse through, it would dent public opinion in the railways period.

Wasn't PBR due to a late cancellation of a track inspection on the part of Network Rail, or something? Which would then be repeated at Grayrigg?

Chiltern in my eyes are the best company on the UK Network as stated they've never caused me delays and the service is imppecable and despite the fact their trains have toilets they never seem to smell like a toiltet when boarding. There is always a fresh smell. FGW could take a lesson from Chiltern Railways cough cough fgw 165.

FGW learn a lesson? No...!

German efficiency I guess. As opposed to profiteering twerps from Aberdeen [nothing against Aberdeen itself, of course!].

Must admit I've only used CT twice & both times the train was spot on time, very clean & staff very good.

I'm looking forward to it, however I don't think the people who live along the line will entirely appreciate all of the disruption to their journeys whilst the upgrade work is carried out.

However as the saying goes, No gain without pain.

Excuse me a moment...

[Rose coloured glasses on]

I'd love to see loco hauled services on the line, nice big coaches, comfy seats!

Sigh...

After the Hatfield derailment was resolved Jarvis were asked to take over the Maintenance Contract at short notice from the incumbent Contractor.

The handover was shall we say a far from pleasant experience to the extent that the offices and equipment were taken out of every office at midnight and new equipment had to be installed.

As the Contract was started, the full depth of the problems were just being discovered, including the poor quality of records and maintenance, something that Railtrack at the time had allowed to occur.

There were no procedures or standards produced by Railtrack relating to the correct maintenance settings for the points and the problemn with loose nuts was well known to Railtrack, but they had taken no action to investigate or issue any technical directive.

Railtrack staff failed to correctly forward a reported rough ride over 2182 points the evening before, and so Jarvis staff were sent to the wrong location and the wrong line.

Following the accident Jarvis instigated its own checks on every set of points under its maintenance control, something that Railtrack belatedly did for the remainder of the Country much later. No other points maintained by Jarvis were found to be other than in good condition.

HMRI issued a Prohibition Order on a set of points maintained by a different Contractor on another route for points which were in a worse condition than those at Potters Bar.

Jarvis took public liability in order to close out the matter for the people injured otherwise this would have gone on for years. The reasons why the points were in the condition they were have never been established. This is not a open and shut case had it been then Jarvis would have been Prosecuted. The fact that they still continue in business and continue to win Contracts says much.

If you step on to a FGW 165 all you can smell is a lavatory, which is very foul indeed. No train should smell as such. Thats what FGW can learn from Chiltern is train maintainance.

Isn't that called "Wrexham & Shropshire"? (Or is that my AS showing through?)

Also, my bad for forgetting that Network Rail didn't even exist then.

I wondered why the train I used to my uncle's (Winnersh) from Reading eight days ago smelt so awful...

BTW Chiltern were supposed to get loco hauled stock using some redundant 67s and MK3s dont know if its died down or not. Apparently they were suposed to be hauling London to Banbury Shuttles.

The LHCS intention is still there quietly hiding away in the background. It wouldnt appear until Evergreen 3 is finished though. It would probably end up running Moor St services though.

Given how long their franchise is, it seems a backward step that any "new" stock should be on such old trains. Whilst its good fun from an enthusaist point of view, it seems odd that they aren't going for 172s, or cascaded 165/166s (or similar)

No, it was FGW. I "conveniently" got to Reading at 15:15, knowing that their only journey from Reading that calls there leaves at 15:28 (to benefit Forest High School). I'd never used an FGW train on the route before in spite of seeing countless steam through, so I decided to give it a go. I even skipped a 458 to that point to make it so.

They are getting 4x172s for Gerrards X/Wycombe terminators.
