I'm currently on the 1651 Snow Hill - Marylebone service. Is it normal for this to be diagrammed as 2 cars? Presumably not as people are standing down the aisles.

I'm also pretty sure this is one of the ex-TPE units - not looking too shabby after their refresh!

If it's got tables, power sockets and Wi-Fi, it's one of the former 170/3s. If it's not, it's most likely to be a 172 as they're good for 100mph, though I believe a 165 found its way onto a Birmingham - London diagram earlier in the week. Not ideal, due to only being good for 75, but better than cancelling a train.

Yes, it was definitely an ex-170/3. I guess there are some shortages at the moment then!

Chiltern has 113 & 325 out of traffic at the moment due to tree damage so most likely a short formed service at a rather busy time of day (especially when it reaches leamington/Banbury)

Yeah Chiltern are seemingly a bit short at the moment. Happened on Monday when a 168/3 turned up with standing room only from Snow Hill. Hopefully once the two units return, and the rest arrive from TPE later in the year, issues like this should be solved.

In the future I hope Chiltern try to get some of the Scotrail 170s for extra capacity when they're released.

There a couple of Birmingham-London trains booked to be 2-car 168/3s, not sure if this is one though. At that time of day I guess the busiest bit of the journey was only Birmingham Moor Street-Solihull anyway.

You'd be surprised, there were people standing for the whole journey, but it was very overcrowded even as far was Banbury.

1H66 1652 off Snow Hill is booked a 3 car 168.

The only Birmingham services booked for a 2 car 168 (SX) are:
2G46 1624 ex MYB
1H77 1914 ex Snow Hill

There's another one in the middle of the day now too. It's mentioned as being reduced from 3 to 2 on Chiltern's poster about the timetable change.

Would make sense to get at least 4 Scotrail 170s so they can release the suburban 172s to wherever the LO 172s go to

What are the chances that I'll get a 172 in Birmingham on a Saturday? I'm asking because i want to try and tick off a few units without having to go a massive distance?

Iv been trying to do the same with 172103 for a while. There are a few diagramed for 172's but from personal experience they arnt always worked by one, 168s often.
