Looks like an OBS. Maybe the role has been created to get the trains finally into service between Oxford and Milton Keynes

It sounds like revenue protection but then it also mention about making announcements etc. It is also lower paid than train manager and they have just ran adverts for Trainee Train Managers

It does somewhat, but there’s also stuff about helping with customer service during special events and engineering works, seemingly at stations.

It may end up being a bit like Lumo where these things are added, but never really come to fruition.

Bit of cross of a few different roles, but OBS is probably the closest match.

Chiltern previously had CSI depots at Marylebone and Aylesbury, they were revenue protection staff who were capable of carrying out passenger guard duties. They were used for the Paddington parliamentary train and the Class 121 services that operated on the Aylesbury to Princes Risborough branch as those trains needed a guard on board to run even though they were in areas surrounded by DOO. The CSI's would also work a few trains to Birmingham to keep competency up but most of their duties were on board revenue protection. Presumably this is a reprisal of that role but for East West?

Where they primarly rostered onboard trains simiarly to obs staff or roaming revenue officers?

Perhaps this could be a role used to settle the industrial dispute and get trains running!

They'd have to be on the trains that required passenger guards on and they were rostered a regular trip to Birmingham (one AM turn one PM turn, nothing at weekends iirc) but they'd roam where required at other times, I believe things like booking offices being closed due to staff shortages or events being on in certain locations would impact on where they were deployed but ultimately the role was as a revenue protection agent who was qualified to perform the duties of a passenger guard when required. I'm almost certain bringing this job description back is down to some sort of plan on how to get East - West up and running but I'd have no idea on the specifics of what they intend.

I would not have said, looking at the description, that this role is in any way related to Chilterns' traditional 'Train Manager' role which is primarily servicing the (dare I say) non-DOO requirement of dispatching the service.

It appears, to me, that this role is solely catering to the primary needs of 'Revenue Protection' and 'Customer Service', extending across the station / platform / train environments.

So my history is a little hazy and will need to look some things up, but, weren't the RMT against this type of role being enacted at SWT back in 2018?

Or, maybe a similar story , or situation like a few years ago, when Edinburgh Waverley, to Bathgate, went Driver only operation, due to its extension, from Glasgow Queen Street Low Level to Edinburgh Waverley via Airdrie,
Similar Story on the then new Scotlands similar East West link on Scotland.

1. Glasgow Queen Street low Level to Drumgelloch driver only. Class 318/320

2. Drumgelloch to Bathgate brand new.

3. Bathgate to Edinburgh Guard dispatch Class 156/158/170. Converting to Driver Only operation. But guards was given more services to work elsewhere.

East West very similar.

1. Oxford to Bicester Village is driver only class 165/168

2. Bicester Village to Milton keynes brand new.

3. Milton keynes to Bletchley, in a guard operated area, but on class 730/350 for example, but the distance a lot smaller , from No 3 , above in this post, As explained above in the scotrail driver only extension in Scotland on its Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh Waverley line.

Very similar situation, its looking like dtiver only operation, maybe how they got this through on Scotland on this line, back in time,
They have just done it here in England on the new East and West Line.

Role similar to Southen obs, with Station Customer Service included,

And mixed in with Scotlands on board, ticket checkers on its doo services, like they do , ie of a guaranteed person on board ablight a ticket checker.
