My work location has changed resulting in me travelling to Birmingham Snow Hill from Banbury a couple of times a week. I've been doing this for almost a month now. It seems a common theme that if trains arriving into Birmingham are late, that Snow Hill services are terminated and started short from Moor St. This happened yesterday on both journeys with the 08.07 from Banbury to Snow Hill terminating at Moor Street (was 20 minutes late), and the evening 17.51 from Snow Hill, starting from Moor Street (17.54) as the corresponding incoming London service was almost 20 minutes late coming into Birmingham.

My question is what is the most reliable up to date live departures tool to use so I know when I'm in the office, if it's worth going to Snow Hill or just go direct to Moor St. (I prefer going to Snow Hill because I'm getting on an empty train and can find a nice seat).

Yesterday Real Time Trains only showed the incoming London train (14.37 ex-Marylebone, planned into Snow Hill 16.35) terminating at Moor Street as the train was passing Bordesley. There was nothing on the Chiltern 'Check my journey' site to say the 16.51 was going to start from Moor Street rather the Snow Hill. It must have known by Chiltern as when I arrived at Moor Street at 16.30, it was already showing as starting from platform 4. I just need to know at around 16.30 which direction to aim for without giving myself a hernia.

Hope it all makes sense.

National Rail Enquiries, the Chiltern App (or most other Apps provided by train companies). will be best. Real Time Trains tends to only be updated later, as it is reliant on Network Rail updating 'TRUST'. NRE and most train company Apps take updates from Darwin. Alterations such as the Moor Street / Snow Hill ones that you mention tend to be updated by the TOC Control Team just as soon as the operational decisions are made.

Edit: You can also register for Journeycheck updates, to receive email or text alerts if your regular train is subject to a change on the day.
