Would it be possible that Chiltern could replace some of it's fleet as it is the oldest on average In the country, with the ex emr 221s once the 810s are in service. or the ex Avanti 221s once they are taken out of service, is there any possibility of this or any other stock replacement on Chiltern

I've been thinking about this. I think that 1) they should use 68 + mk5 set to ideally be usable for Dec 24 timetable, to release 165s and 168s for refurbishment and EWR (so the planned 6 196s can still be used by WMR). 2) Then, perhaps coupled with some quadrupling in places, the EMR 222s or give those to XC and use all 221s and make use of the tilt (beyond High Wycombe though as an increased difference in speeds south of there would be detrimental to capacity for both slow and fast trains on a two track line). Either way it would all be temporary as electrification is desperately needed. The downside of being a complete two track line is focus on intercity and long distance detracts from local, and vice versa. It's been at least 9 months and I have heard of no progress on said TPE 68s. It's a shame the mess Chiltern seems to be in these days.

What about the grand central class 180s weren't they thinking about replacing them with a few 8xx class trains or am I mistaken, if I am correct those could also have a life working Chiltern services

A long time off yet and in any case the 180s are only fit for scrap.

Does the DFT really want to deal with the 180s when the 68s+MK5s are available? There's a reason why GC is the only operator of the 180s.

Reliability issues which chiltern probably won’t want if given the choice. Otherwise the livery would have to be a picture of fire and some text saying “You’ll be going nowhere” just to set the customer expectations from the very start.
I Agree with post #4 - scrap is the best option for those fiery wheelie bins

What you need to understand is that that units 165006 - 165039 where engineered specifically for the steep gradients of the Chiltern Hills.
165001-165005 were thames trains units geared for the much shallower gradients on the GWR routes.
165001-165005 also have different directional control switches which marks them out.
The 165 units are a good workhorse, way more reliable than the 168 stock.
