Hey guys

Does anyone know what diagrams the Chiltern 172s work?

Thanks

It's here
www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=31774&page=71

However, this appears to be amended from the timetable change as the Chiltern website suggests that the 1816 from Marylebone and return and some of the morning work will be formed of different rolling stock - it doesn't suggest what they change to. I would be interested to know.

What is the thinking behind these remaining low mileage peak only units? I seem to recall that only a limited number of drivers had been trained on them. Is training ongoing for more drivers?

Looks like 1958 from South Ruislip back to London Marylebone is the new trip for the travelcard haulage bashers amongst us.

...After which it is rumoured that the Aylesbury drivers will learn them.

Training drivers on the 172 has been quite slow because it has been hard to release drivers to do the training without jeopardizing the service. With the teething problems from the Evergreen 3 timetable it has been important to maintain an adequate number of spare drivers to ease disruption. Prior to the EG3 timetable all training time had to be concentrated on instructing drivers on the infrastructure changes and now there is a deadline to get all drivers trained on GSM-R radio, so you can appreciate 172 training has had to take a lower priority.

I've not heard this from any official source, but i would guess that the 172s are deliberately being kept on a fairly limited set of self-contained diagrams at the moment because of the small number of drivers who sign them. If they were used more widely then it would increase the chance of a traction/driver compentency mismatch occuring when the service gets disrupted.

for brand new units they dont seem to be getting used an awful lot

Likewise with the 67s, although not new only one set is used all day (the rest sit in sidings outside the peaks). Never used at weekends, shame as they'd be good for families having all those tables and a buffet. Hopefully Chiltern plan to use them 7 days a week from May 2012.

Why have Virgin done it until the 7th of September? :)

The new type of bogies on the 172 units are unable to tripcocks fitted.

As for not running on the met, well watch this space in a few years time!

Periods A-F were offered back in May, Periods G and H (Sept to Dec) were only offered a week and a half ago, none of the TOCs have responded to it yet so nothing will be there.

I suppose it depends on whether or not tripcocks are retained when the Met is resignalled.

I'm not sure if it is actually impossible to fit tripcocks to the 172s. I suspect it is more a case of it being too difficult to justify the cost for such a small fleet that can fairly easily be kept away from the Met.

Incidentally I am led to believe they are allowed on the Met as long as they are "boxed in" between two 165s. So far this has yet to happen though.

No May 2012 timetable, runs through to December 2012.
Chiltern traincrew and stock diagrams run until May 12th 2012.After which there will be alterations including the use of up to 4 sets of refurbished mark 3/67 stock on full Mon-Fri diagrams.
