Child on 16-25 Railcard

Hi,

I currently have an unused return part of a Off Peak Return which is valid with a 16-25 railcard between Lincoln and Liverpool Stns.

My question is, can my 15 year old brother use the ticket? If he takes proof of his age with him?

No. Tickets are non transferable.

If he takes proof of invalidity then I'd say that'd pretty much cement the "no" answer

Even if you "ignore" the transferability aspect and pretend that the ticket was for your brother all along, he doesn't have the appropriate railcard. As soon as a ticket inspector asks for his railcard, he's stuck. If the 16-25 fare was available to anyone of that age (like child fares for under 16s) then I'd guess a ticket inspector would let things be, but you have to pay for a railcard before you can use the benefits. He may be able to buy one beforehand without being asked to prove that he's under 25, but that'd cost £24 just to be able to use your unwanted ticket.
