You would have thought Blair was a Dictator.
Parliament voted in favour of the war.

Just over 12 months later...Blair was returned in a general election with a 100 seat majority.

This needs to be remebered

I think that the report has mostly just set out what most of the people in the UK believe. I don't think that there was ever much appetite for the invasion of Iraq, a lot of people suspected that the deal with Bush to support his policy to invade come what may had been done long before the actual invasion. I also think that many of us thought that it was some kind of punishment for 9/11.

As far as I'm concerned the report has been an expensive exercise in stating the obvious, and since nothing much will result from it, I don't really see the point of it.

Though it's always nice to see eminent Lord's agreeing with what I always thought and said!

Well, one of the first results is the cessation of intelligence from low placed sources being immediately acted upon without clearance/authorisation from a senior MI6 officer.
You state that the report merely confirms what many of us thought. This is true but thoughts and suspicions are not the same as an officially sanctioned independent enquiry leading to a report. To put it in railway terms, I think that that derailment at Paddington was caused by a driver missing the shunt signal, but an official enquiry will lead to a report.

Note that Michael Howard (leader of the Conservatives at the next election) voted for the war, as did David Cameron (who later took over the Conservatives.)

Charles Kennedy (leader of the Lib Dems at the next election), Menzies Campbell (who went on to become Lib Dem leader) and Alex Salmond (leader of the SNP at the next election) voted against the war, as did George Galloway (who went on to form Respect party.)

Are you saying both Labour and the Conservatives should have been put on the opposition benches over the Iraq war, with maybe the Lib Dem and SNP in coalition in government? And then what would have happened? Maybe an anti-Iraq war person in the Labour party like Corbyn would have become leader?
