Chesterfield to Batley via Stalybridge

I have a colleague based in Chesterfield who I'd like to get to the start of the Transpennine Rail Ale Trail at the Stalybridge end and then along the full length of it to Batley.

Is this as simple as a Chesterfield to Batley Off-Peak Day Return at £22.80 (subject to a 09:30 start), can that be used on EMR to Manchester Piccadilly and then to hop on and off onwards towards Batley?

If travel via Manchester isn't permitted on a Chesterfield to Batley Off Peak Day Return (route "via Sheffield") (can anyone advise / confirm?), then a slightly more expensive, but flexible, alternative might well be a Chesterfield to Dronfield (Anytime Day Return) at £5.10, together with a 'South Pennines Day Ranger' at £31.20.

Without checking, I would be quite confident that Chesterfield to Batley is NOT valid via Manchester. To better advise whether there is a cheaper ticket(s) than suggested above, it would be useful to know what the plan is after reaching Batley - is it returning to Chesterfield via Leeds and Sheffield or back through Manchester?

Thanks for the quick response! From Batley the colleague will just want to go home to Chesterfield with no particular route preference, that's probably quickest via Leeds but would be interested in hearing if it's cheaper a different way?

An Off Peak Day Return from Chesterfield to Greenfield would appear to fit the bill, at £35.10. Out via Stalybridge and return via Leeds.

I was just about to suggest a Chesterfield to Stalybridge Return which is also £35.10.

The forums ticketing site is offering an Off Peak Day Return via Leeds at £35.10 and a couple of pounds less if splitting at Sheffield.
