Chester to Kingham station best route

When I use travel planner to go Chester to Kingham it’s giving me :

Chester to Stafford
Stafford to Worcestershire Parkway
Worcestershire Parkway to Kingham

There is a route through Birmingham too but last time I went there I nearly got crushed on a platform due to congestion

Also

Chester to Hereford
Hereford to Kingham

What is optimal route with luggage for 4 adults? The Hereford route has 45 minute wait but there is cafe.

Any other ways to get there ?

That's the route I use to go to Worcester Shrub Hill from Chester (obviously heading the other way when I get to Worcestershire Pway).

I have done it via Birmingham NS, but was sat on the Worcester train ready to depart and they cancelled it, so had to take a scenic journey via Smethwick as the next service wasn't for an hour.

Via Hereford there only seems to be a direct service from Hereford to Kingham every two hours, as is there from Chester to Hereford, so you might (will) be adding more changes than 1 and it takes longer.

It's not a great journey whichever way you go, but you might be able to get a cheap split ticket with advances Chester to Hereford and then another on to Kingham and use the cafe.

Sadly it's around 90 minutes quicker to drive (although appreciate that defeats the object!).

Any other ways to get there ?

Possibly Chester to Stafford, Stafford to Oxford and finally Oxford to Kingham. But that does mean two hours on XC, mid journey.

Stafford to Worcestershire parkway is through Brum, but they have put you on a through train - a very wise precaution as you will appreciate from your previous experience.
It depends whether you want to look out of the window at a classic route through the industrial west midands, or would prefer the mainly rural long way round...

You will need to change levels at Worcestershire Parkway but there will be a lift.

We did Chester to New street to Worstershire parkway to Kingham - stopped in Birmingham for a few hours shopping - nice journey
