Maybe not all families of the prisoners have cars, also some will not have the money for a taxi either. I really can't see a huge increase in passenger numbers you may get 1 or 2% at max Bob.

If a family have not the resources to see a prisoner on a social visit,UK Gov will pay for the visit to those who qualify.
To visit Wrexham Super Prison, there are only two options, by car or train,no bus service is available other than the Industrial Estate to Wrexham General station & this is only funded for three years by MOJ. I would not be so concerned if the prison was a small unit, but this will be the largest in the UK & second largest in Europe.
Has the thread is Chester station, eight miles away those arriving by train or bus to Chester will have to get to Wrexham General anyway to catch a connecting bus to the prison.
No one knows what effect this will have on General Station footfall until it happens, but in my opinion footfall will increase without any extra capacity being planned.
Welsh Government North Wales transport Task Force have now highlighted foreseen problems with capacity at General station during its December meeting in Wrexham.

2100 inmates. 2 visitors six times a year = 24,000pa.

If a quarter come by rail that's 6,000 onto an annual figure of 600,000.

1%. Or 2% if we count arrivals & departures individually.

Hardly game-changing.
