Crewe has one "158 miles toLondon"

There is also one for Glasgow (I forget the mileage) and one for Liverpool (proudly pronouncing it as the European Capital of Culture, which is obviously archaic now) at 35mi.

I never recall seeing it, is the worlds biggest jig saw still on the walkway
connecting all the platforms at Crewe.

It isn't there any more, and neither is the "Carlisle 102" Caledonian Railway milepost that was fixed directly under it.

That is a nice piece of work, I note its date 1987, yet sadly having travelled
to London many,many times, I don't recall seeing it, the only things that used to stick out on the London run were

1.The concrete cows at M K

2.The Ovaltine clock at Hemel H.

I travelled on FNW a few times to Euston, not sure if Lichfield was a stop, but the train did stop in the trent valley
used to catch this train at Sandbach as VT had a Non COMPI on Crewe for any other TOC doing an express run to
London, FNW used Stanstead Airport Express stock EMUs, without ever taking the name off, Man Airport to Euston
via Sandbach for £20 return.Sadly but not surprising, VT started a £10 pre book fare with very heavy advertising
recall the ads at Euston which in the end killed off the rival to London. FNW always used platforms 1 & 2 at Euston.

Unless you're on a stopper you're even less likely to see it since the linespeed increase.

Yes, but this is on the side of the LNWR shed to the south of Crewe. The 35 miles to Liverpool was added when it was the Capital of Culture, I think it's still there though.

There's a 'mileage to London' sign at Atherstone IIRC.

The one that always amazes me is the 'To Crew and the North' at Colwich junction. Who is that for? Of what possible use is it?

Drivers will already know where the line goes, and passengers will have boarded a train that is either going via Crewe or via Stoke and cannot make any decisions based on that sign!

There's a LNER 'Half Way' sign North of York somewhere - again, it's very hard to notice from the trains are they're generally travelling rather fast at this point.

A recent trip up the ECML from York to Edinburgh produced a fair crop of such signs on the east side- mileage to London / Edinburgh, halfway points, sign at the northern end of the Ferryhill loop etc...

Returning via the WCML produced signs at Quintinshill (site of worst UK rail disaster) and the Border - again both on the east side.
