Hi,

Hopefully quick simple question - is an £11 Chester to Manchester Stations off-peak ticket valid via Crewe?

Reason being I want to catch the ATW loco hauled set to Crewe for a Pendolino forward - it seems to take a similar amount of time as going direct but it doesn't show up in the planners which makes me doubt the validity.

Thanks in advance

I assume that you mean the £11 offpeak day single.

The good news: it is valid via Crewe.

The bad news: it is valid only on Virgin Trains West Coast services.

Thanks for the reply.

Sorry yes I should have been clearer, looking at the planner it's a bit of a minefield! there are 5 different singles between £11 & £17 available. Would the £12.50 or £13.40 ticket be suitable for my desired itinerary?

On the face of it I can't see the difference, they all say 'valid by the route shown' but then fail to show a route !

Assuming we're referring to single fares, the £12.50 is an Off Peak day single, only valid on trains (Northern) travelling through Altrincham. It's not valid via Crewe and only valid after 08:59 on weekdays.

The £13.40 fare has the same routing restriction, but is an anytime ticket so therefore valid on morning peak trains.

Virgin only tickets are of course, valid via Crewe & the off peak day single comes in at £11.00, or £13.50 for an anytime single.

An Any Permitted single, whilst more expensive, will be valid via either Warrington, Altrincham or Crewe, but costs more for the flexibility.

Thanks for the explanation.

I've booked my advance from Manchester to York, I think I'll leave the Chester-Manchester portion until the day.

Thanks
Ash
