Cheshire day ranger

Hi all im thinking about doing a Cheshire day ranger this sat and i just have a few questions

1.How much is it with a 16-25 Railcard?
2.Im planning on using a West Midlands Day ranger with it too cheaper) i know the West mids ranger is not valid on virgin trains services but the Cheshire day ranger is so i was wondering do you think the staff would be nice and let me use the WMDR?

3. If anyone wants to join us then feel free to come, you may have heard some bad things about me but i dont do stupid things or give the hobby a bad name i just go to a station and film whatever comes in/past and have fun doing it

It's £11-90 with a 16-25 Railcard. Valid as far South as Whitchurch, Crewe and Stoke-on-Trent.

Where are you planning on getting a Virgin Trains service from ?

I reckon that if you wanted to validly use a West Midlands Day Ranger ticket to get to Crewe or Stoke-on-Trent, where you can then switch over to the Cheshire Day Ranger, you'd almost certainly have to travel there by London Midland or Cross Country services; not worth it if you get gripped on board a northbound Virgin Trains service from Birmingham.

I used a CDR a couple of years ago to do:

Wilmslow - Crewe (Arriva Wales)
Crewe - Liverpool (Central)
Liverpool - Man Picc via Earlestown (Northern)
Man Picc - Chester via Warrington (Arriva)
Chester - Crewe (Arriva)
Crewe - Stoke (Central)
Stoke - Manchester Picc (Virgin)
Manchester Picc - Liverpool via Warrington Central & Widnes (Central)
Liverpool - Chester (Merseyrail)
Chester - Stockport via Northwich (Northern)
Stockport - Wilmslow (Arriva)

Started at 08:52, finished at 18:24

Total time travelling: 7 hours 33 minutes

Total connection time: 2 hours 29 minutes

Pretty good value!

But this topic has cropped up several times recently, and I'm gonna say the same things as I usually say (sorry )
1) I don't think this can be enforced (as it doesn't state the restriction on the ticket as per NCoC)
2) I've asked if anyone has actually been chinged on a Virgin service on such a ticket and so far no-one I know has ever stated that this has happened to them, and no-one has so far posted to this forum stating that this has happened to them either.
3) Plenty of people have used them on Virgin without any problems.

My advice if worried would be to show the ticket on boarding and say "am I alright to <insert station name>?" Don't act as if you think it's invalid, but just ask the question and I'd be surprised if they say "no"

yeah thats what i usually do when im on a west midlands day ranger on virgin services i just say "i can use this (showing ticket) on this cant i" and they just say "yeah it should be fine"

thanks for the info guys! bit annoyed that i have to cange at stafford to get a VT liverpool service (as i wish to avoid Crewe! but my mate wants a class 390 bash) but as they say "Meh!"

I know its been nearly a month since the last reply - but as my virgin post on this site i'd like to share a journey me and a friend did on the cheshire rover (plus a stafford-stoke return)

leaving stafford ~10am:

Stoke - Crewe (East Midland 153)
Crewe - Liverpool Lime Street (LM 350/?)
Liv - Hamilton Square (Merseyrail)
Hamilton Square - Hooton (Merseyrail)
Hooton - Chester (Merseyrail) [we had a long wait for a direct train at liv so decided to split it]

LUNCH (we deserved it!)

Chester - Newton-Le-Willows (ATW class 175) [the most deserted station i've ever been to!]
Newton-Le-Willows - Manchester Airport (Northern 156) [yay! planes! stood ontop of the carpark watching planes take off]
MIA - MAN (Northern 323)
MAN - LIV (First TransPennine Express (Class 185)
LIV - STA (LM Class 350/1)

getting back to stafford ~10pm

tiring day, but so worth it!
