Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me.

From Cheltenham to Bromsgrove if you put it into journey planners your told to go via Worcester, Now there is only 1 train every 2 hours from Cheltenham so if you miss the train it's another 2 hour wait!

When I boarded the train last time from Cheltenham to change at New Street I was queried over it but explained there was only 1 train every 2 hours and the train guard stamped the ticket and walked of not looking very happy....

So is the ticket valid via New Street? It just says on the tickt "Any Route Permitted"

Bromsgrove is an associated station of Cheltenham Group so the answer, in short, is 'no', unless there is an easement which I can't look up for now.

I seem to recall there is an easement regarding travel from Bromsgrove to Cheltenham via Brum, but there was some debate about the wording, and what that meant for doing as you describe.

Do those easements trump a ticket with "route: Not Birmingham" printed on it?

Returning to easement 300442:

Customers travelling from Bromsgrove via Cheltenham Spa may travel via Birmingham New Street. This easement applies in both directions.

Now, with that 'via Cheltenham' bit does that exclude journeys starting/ending at Cheltenham?

My interpretation would be that the easement only applies if starting/ending your journey at Bromsgrove to/from a station beyond Cheltenham.

Or is it another case of bad wording and journeys to/from Cheltenham should also be allowed?

Well, isn't the whole purpose of an easement to increase the journey opportunities for the customer? There's no point to the easement if it doesn't permit travel *to* Cheltenham via Brum, so as far as I'm concerned it's just a poorly worded easement and it should indeed apply to journeys to and from CNM.
