Was planning a spin to Cheltenham and wondered if there is a chippy or similar eatery close by the station?
There's an inn opposite it (the Midland Hotel), I'd imagine they do meals. Otherwise not much else as you're a mile out of the town centre.
It's not as bad as some I could mention...
If your thinking of Castle Carey then I find CCY preferable, and that's after experiencing a connection to Taunton that rolled in nearly 2 hours late.
Try killing time in WSB!
Ah yes, coming of the Southampton - Cardiff train and waiting for one to Weymouth and trying to find someones lap to sit on in the waiting room for the hour.
I've been on Google street view, is this Fish bar / Southern fried chicken place you mention called "Popeye's" ? Is it one of those "evening only" opening take aways or a lunchtime opener?Yep, I agreed with above. You can exit the station from either side with the chippy on the main road bridge nearby.

Nice coffee shop opposite the back entrance, and a well-equipped Spar.
The place seemed quite basic when I went in there (In 2010), though the signs outside on the Google streetview image strongly suggests that it does a range of food. I can't remember anything being served when I was in there (I can't remember any other patrons in there, either come to think of it!) but perhaps I was in there at the wrong time of day. There's an inn opposite it (the Midland Hotel), I'd imagine they do meals.
